“A Simple Choice,” by Marquette Jones, was selected as the Grand Prize winner and was awarded a Grand Prize package consisting of a Panasonic AG-HVX200, with two 16GB P2 cards and a $5,000 cash prize. Four additional short films (“A Journey of Courage and Hope: Living with Thalassemia” by A. Shaun Kurian, “Silence is Not the Cure” by Rehana Mirza, “Through Our Children’s Eyes” by Kat Rohrer and “Time” by Stephen M. Harris) were finalists for the prize and were screened at the event.

Jan Crittenden Livingston, Product Line Business Manager, Panasonic Broadcast attended the event. “This partnership with Cooley’s Anemia Foundation and Abel has enriched the Panasonic tradition of fostering independent filmmaking,” Ms. Crittenden Livingston said. “It is so gratifying to have supported the memorable and meaningful work of these five talented filmmakers for this important initiative.”

CAF Board member Frank Somma served as host and emcee, and Pete Abel of Abel Cine Tech discussed the origin of the P2 for a Cause project and the decision to choose thalassemia as the “Cause.” Gargi Pahuja, representing TAG, spoke about her experiences with thalassemia.

CAF thanks Panasonic Broadcast and Abel Cine Tech for this unique collaborative arrangement. The Foundation extends special thanks to the gifted filmmakers who dedicated so much talent and imagination to the creation of these videos.
