OSIA Lodge Scares Up Treat for CAF
November 9, 2009 – Some Long Island ghosts and goblins scared up a nice treat for Cooley’s Anemia Foundation this Halloween, courtesy of the Per Sempre Ladies Lodge of the Order Sons of Italy in America (OSIA).
Twenty-year-old Leeann Rondinelli and her mother, Joanie Rondinelli, put together a special “Halloween for Cooley’s Anemia” fund raiser on October 17. One hundred guests, almost all of them in costume descended on the Knight of Columbus Hall in New Hyde Park, NY, to spend the evening moving to the mesmerizing music of the one and only DJ Joey, snack on some delicious treats and buy raffles, all to support the fight against Cooley’s anemia/thalassemia.
One of the raffles was a “straw” raffle, in which patrons purchased a bag of 25 straws and opened each one until a “winning” straw was found. Each winning straw entitled the bearer to a small prize, so nobody who bought a straw raffle went home emptyhanded.
In all, about $1000 was raised to add to the monies that OSIA will contribute to CAF via the Sons of Italy Foundation.
Leeann Rondinelli is planning on becoming a nurse and already works with children in a hospital setting, and her mother is a long time supporter of CAF through New York State OSIA. The Foundation thanks them for their efforts on behalf of people with thalassemia.
