Fast Facts: What’s a T-Score? | |
A T-score is used to measure a person’s bone mineral density (BMD). A T-score of “0” means that a person’s BMD is equal to that of a normal, healthy 30-year-old. A score above 0 means the BMD is greater than normal, and below 0 means it is lower than normal. Osteopenia, sometimes called reduced bone mass, is defined as having a T-score between -1.5 and -2.5. Osteoporosis is defined as having a T-score lower than -2.5. To learn more about low bone mass in thalassemia, click here. |
