June 15 is Deadline for International Thalassemia Award Applications

May 1, 2013 – The deadline for applying for one of the 2013 Sultan Bin Khalifa International Thalassemia Awards,established by H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan in partnership with the Thalassaemia International Federation, is June 15.

The Awards are intended to recognize outstanding contributions in thalassemia by medical professionals, researchers, patients, parents and organizations. Awards will be given in the following categories:

Sultan Bin Khalifa Grand International Award

This Award is to be presented to an individual for major life-long scientific contribution in the field of thalassemia/hemoglobinopathies.

Sultan Bin Khalifa International Award for Innovative Medical Research

This Award is to be presented to an individual for a recent innovative significant scientific or clinical contribution in the field of thalassemia /hemoglobinopathies.

Sultan Bin Khalifa International Award for Clinical Center of Excellence

This Award is to be presented to a thalassemia center which has achieved an outstanding improvement in the care of patients with thalassemia/hemoglobinopathies.

Sultan Bin Khalifa International Award for Thalassemia Society of Excellence

This Award is to be presented to a thalassemia patient/parent society that has significantly contributed towards improving the quality of life of patients with thalassemia.

Sultan Bin Khalifa International Scholarship for Translational Research in Thalassemia

Two 2-year mentored scholarships are presented to young physicians or scientists willing to carry out research (basic or clinical) in the field of thalassemia/hemoglobinopathies

Sultan Bin Khalifa International Award for Leadership in Thalassemia

To be presented to a personality that has contributed significant work in thalassemia and the hemoglobinopathies and has achieved a measurable impact in proving the quality of life of patients.
