CT Broadcasters and ESPN Sponsor Blood Drives
June 6, 2011 – The Connecticut Broadcasters Association and the American Red Cross are proud to announce that for the first time ever, radio and television broadcasters across the state, as well as ESPN, will join together in a non-competitive and coordinated effort to help save lives during four days of American Red Cross blood drives – June 27 through June 30.
“We appreciate the Connecticut Broadcasters Association and its members sponsoring four days of blood drives leading into the July 4th weekend, a challenging time to collect blood because of hot weather, school vacations and holiday travel,” stated Paul Sullivan, Chief Executive Officer, American Red Cross – Connecticut Blood Services Region. “We look forward to welcoming hundreds of blood donors each day, along with friends and family, to participate in a chance to make a difference in the lives of others by donating blood before the July 4th holiday weekend, as the need for blood does not take a vacation.”
The unique multi-day blood drive will be held on Monday, June 27, Tuesday, June 28, Wednesday, June 29 and Thursday, June 30 at convenient locations around Connecticut including many television and radio broadcast studios; Marriott Hotel locations at Trumbull, Stamford and the Mystic Marriott in Groton; community centers including churches, synagogues, social clubs, banquet facilities, city offices, and Red Cross locations.
“We hope the listeners and viewers of radio and television members of the Connecticut Broadcasters Association will help us in our goal to donate 2,500 units of blood in just four days,” stated Mike Rice, President of the Connecticut Broadcasters Association. “Our members are proud to support the American Red Cross in its lifesaving mission both on-the-air and at the blood drives to help increase blood supply levels in Connecticut during the summer months. We invite the community to join Connecticut radio and television personalities during four days of blood drives to help save lives.”
