February 16, 2011 – CAF Vice President of Fundraising Dean Hernan and his family have promised to make a special donation to CAF and TAG’s Care Walk: For every thalassemia patient or family member who registers to participate in the Long Island Care Walk in Bethpage State Park on May 1, the Hernans will contribute $50 to the Care Walk.
This pledge is good for up to 200 patients or family members, for a potential total donation of $10,000.
“I am really excited about the wonderful response the Care Walk is generating,” says Dean. “We want to see as many patients and family members as possible come out and support the walk in Bethpage State Park to help make the day even more special.”
The Care Walk on May 1, 2011, sponsored by the Cooley’s Anemia Foundation & the Thalassemia Action Group, will be a whole series of individual walks that will let people across the country demonstrate their support for people with thalassemia. You can show you care just by going for a walk.
A Care Walk is unique because it offers you flexibility: you may determine where you want to walk and plan an event that works for you. You determine what your Care Walk route will be: around a nearby lake, in a community park, your own neighborhood – any route you decide upon. Or, if you live in the New York metropolitan area, you can participate in an organized walk; in addition to Long Island, organized walks are planned in Staten Island and Ndew Jersey.

Anyone can hold his/her own individual Care Walk. You can get started by setting up a Care Walk page; click here for more information. (Please note that we request that you register for the Walk by March 31.)
CAF thanks the Hernans for their extraordinary generosity and urges all patients and family members who can make it to Bethpage State Park to register today!
