  • The number one reason donors say they give blood is because they “want to help others.”
  • One donation can help save the lives of up to three people.
  • Donating blood is a safe process. A sterile needle is used only once for each donor and then discarded.

“I decided to hold the fundraiser/blood drive because someone I love with all my heart is living with this disease,” Gloria says. “I’ve always wanted to do something to let them know I am always thinking about them, as well as the families and friends of other people with Cooley’s anemia. This is the first time I’ve held any type of fundraiser and I’m very excited. It will not be the last either!”

According to the American Red Cross, more than 38,000 blood donations are needed every day in the United States. “It is very hard to find blood donors, so if someone is eligible to give blood I would urge them to do so,” Gloria says. “A lot of people say they are afraid to and I say back to them ‘Think about the people on the receiving end!'”
