CAF Westchester-Rockland Chapter Hosts “Night At The Races” Benefit on April 1

February 13, 2017 – The CAF Westchester-Rockland Chapter welcomes all to experience the annual “Night at the Races” benefit on April 1st, 2017.

This fun-filled event features a buffet dinner, open bar and raffle prizes. Guests will bet on the video horse races throughout the evening. The event will begin at 7pm at the V.I,P, Country Club in New Rochelle, and the cost is $80 per person. To RSVP, see details located on the flyer here, or contact Peter Chieco at anemia@optonline.net.

Twenty years ago, CAF Weschester-Rockland Chapter President and former CAF National President, Peter Chieco, launched this event in honor of his daughter Michelle. From Mr. Chieco:

“Thank goodness, in part because of our efforts and your past support, a lot of progress has been made since we first became involved in 1988, after our middle daughter, Michelle was diagnosed. I am very happy to report, she is doing well, and looking forward to being married in August. However, she still must receive twice a month red blood cell transfusions and daily chelation medicine to remove toxic iron. Despite her success, it is with a heavy heart that every year we still lose patients, and even children, to this disease in the United States. Internationally, for many countries, the prognosis is still grim for children born with this condition.

As we enter 2017, we are more dedicated and hopeful than ever, that our goal of talking about this disease in the past tense is achievable within the next ten years. While much work still needs to be done, my family and I cannot help but reflect on all the support we have received over the years from so many wonderful people. Through all the difficult times we experienced, there has always been a network of help. Whether it was through blood donations, attending an event, a raffle prize gift, or with monetary support, we have been blessed to have received the help, love, and prayers of so many. Thank you for being part of this story with us.”
